December 2006 - February 2007

The winter was an interesting season here in Manitoba. Luckily Canupawakpa and MB E-Association were able to survive the harsh elements that “Mother Nature” handed us in order to push forward on our OLT project in Canupawakpa Dakota Nation (CDN).
During this quarter, our first Evaluation Report was completed, Canupawakpa received some new equipment, the team has identified other project opportunities and the network at the Adult Education Centre received a network ‘facelift.”
Canupawakpa Dakota Nation and Southwest Horizon School Division continued to deliver the e-Learning (virtual high school) at the Canupawakpa Education Centre. This pilot project will continue until the end of June 2007. Jacie Skelton has continued to provide a huge benefit to the students at the Adult Education Centre as well as to Manitoba E-Association. We are glad to have her on the “Team.”
The Canupawakpa Adult Education Centre was extremely fortunate during this Quarter. The Adult Education Centre obtained some funding from Industry Canada to purchase 5 laptops and create a wireless environment within the classroom. These laptops will now serve as tools to assist the students, Adult Education Centre and Manitoba E-Association in delivering high end multimedia workshops. In the past, this was not quite possible due to the aging equipment that was available to students at the Education Centre. Now with the new laptops, that has all changed.
The Adult Education Centre has also received some additional equipment during this Quarter. MB E-Association did an entire network rewiring at the Adult Education Centre. The entire LAN cabling was replaced and the team also placed “Hot Spot” equipment on the building. The new broadcast equipment allows users to access the Internet within approximately one (1) acre from this access point.
Canupawakpa Dakota Nation is also working on some additional partnerships with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and Industry Canada (IC). It is not anticipated that any new projects will commence until after April 1, 2007.
On a final note, Paul Concepcion (MB E) worked extensively during this period on the Interactive Training Modules (ITM’s). During this quarter, Paul had completed 3 full modules for Canupawakpa consisting of the following:
o Installing Windows Applications and Windows/Microsoft Update
o Basic Windows Security
o Burning a Data DVD
