 March 2007 - May 2007
It was a busy time during this quarter at the Canupawakpa Education Centre. Jacie Skelton was working with her adult students finalizing their credit courses toward their GED. It is anticipated that there will be at least one student who will receive her GED before the end of the school year. The students were prepared for their credits through face-to-face instruction as well as match courses that were taught from a teacher through the video conferencing equipment via another community location. Although we would have liked to see more GED certificates initiated in Year 1, we understand that the programming will require additional time to materialize so that we can see far greater numbers. It is expected that Year 2 will see an increased number of students who receive their GED Diploma. Manitoba E-Association worked directly with Function Four during this quarter to identify other opportune ways to enhance our project delivery. Function Four also identified opportunities that MB E could capitalize on, in order to better market our project within the community as well ways of logging some successes that are not usually shown in our quarterly reports. In order to capture some of the noticeable changes for the betterment of the community, MB E will now be digitally capturing our discussions with leaders, students and community members. Manitoba E-Association has also delivered a Skype session during this quarter with some students and has worked directly with Jacie Skelton at the Canupawakpa Education Centre in order to conduct an exercise to identify the various types of technology available in the community. It was a great exercise and it provided us with the level of understanding of the various technology infrastructure (in the students’ minds) that they seen as vital amenities in the community. We also conducted a face-to-face discussion with students in order to identify what types of technologies that they would like to see available to them in the future. Paul Concepcion (MB E) worked diligently this quarter on enhancing the Interactive Compact Disks (ICD’s). Enhancements including slowing down timings and making changes to the programs so that they are more compatible with a variety of windows applications.
